Breakwater is an idle game in the style of Melvor Idle, with walking mechs and deep-sea monsters instead of swords and dragons.

Something has started coming up out of the sea. You run the salvage yard on the harbour wall: cut wrecks apart, pour plate in the foundry, machine parts, wire them up, and build frames to send out after whatever climbs the breakwater.

This is the demo. It covers the opening of the game, up to level 45 in every discipline and the end of the Harrow story line at the canyon. A save carries into the full game: Settings, Save code.

What's in the demo

  • 13 disciplines with Melvor's XP curve and mastery, from salvage and the foundry to research, containment and xenology.
  • Pilots who train skills in real time, EVE-style, whether you're playing or not.
  • Standing orders: you set each pilot's orders ahead of time and the fight plays out on its own. You can still call in the coastal battery or recall a frame.
  • A fitting screen for your frames: power, offence, effective hull and resists, and saved fits to swap between.
  • Risers to put down, tag, raise in pens and study until you know where to hit them.
  • Charting, wreck dives, expeditions and named risers, out to the canyon and what sank the navy's walkers in 1968.
  • Contracts, factions and a mainland quartermaster.
  • A Help tab covering every system, item and riser, plus a phone layout, five paint schemes, and light and dark themes.

The full game goes on past the canyon to the vents, the abyssal plain and the hadal trench. It adds a fourth frame, levels and badges to 99, a forward station to build, tours of duty (the prestige), and a story that ends on the second tour. It's in playtesting now.

The base keeps working while you're away and catches up when you come back. If nobody gives an order for 24 hours a red alert stops the base, so check in once a day.

Saves live in your browser's storage for itch.io. Clearing site data or switching browsers starts you over, so keep a save code.

The game sends anonymous counts when you reach milestones (like clearing an expedition), so I can see where people get stuck or race ahead. No cookies, no accounts, nothing about you.

There is a big savegame-problem for me. Its not that he entirely swipes the progress on reloads - the total time played stays the same and is counting onwards. loading a save doesnt work either bc it says that the browser blocks it. never had any issues with any other game.

seems to be a problem with selecting items form drop down lists, the lists dissapear too quick to select anythin

Pushing a fix for this now - thanks for the feedback, and let me know if you're still having problems.
